VIDEO: Greene County Emergency Medical Services has started implementing a new technology into its workflow called TRAUMAGEL, meant to help stop bleeding.
Ali Akbar, the EMS Captain at Greene County EMS, says the new technology can help keep the patient stable on those longer ambulance rides.
“Depending on where you are in Greene County, we could have a transport time of up to like, an hour,” Akbar said. “And we would have to manage that patient and stop their bleeding, put a tourniquet and stuff on. With TRAUMAGEL we can apply it and have one more step to stopping bleeding.”
The gel is also easy to use. The gel is inserted via syringe and shapes itself based on the unique size of the wound.
“I just love the ease of use. All you have to do is unscrew the cap, wipe away the blood from the site. You inject it directly into the wound where the bleeding site is and it immediately works,” Akbar said.
