The new machine is an upgrade from the hospital’s previous MRI machine.
Cory Wheeler, the imaging manager for MyMichigan Health Saginaw, says the machine will produce stronger images that will be able to detect a variety of issues.
“We can look at the brain, we’re looking at spinal injuries, we are looking for sports related injuries,” said Wheeler.
The better images will help doctors make more accurate diagnoses.
Wheeler says their last machine took 45 minutes to do an MRI scan but with this Signa Hero, it can do it in roughly half the time.
“Those results get sent to the physician faster. They review those images and can treat the patient quicker” he said.
The Signa machine is also larger than the previous one, which can help patients who are claustrophobic.
Wheeler considers the new technology vitally important because it will save lives and bring relief to patients.
