Ryan Clark is walking away with his head held high.
The now-former ESPN NFL analyst was caught up in the latest round of layoffs at the Disney-owned network. It was a move that didn’t come without controversy either.
Clark was informed of his future with ESPN during “NFL Live,” according to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand. He did not finish the show. The former NFL safety broke his silence and commented on the news in a social media post on July 21.
“Sending prayers and love to all those laid off today by ESPN,” Clark said on X. “So many of you have poured your life into that company, & I know how you’re feeling right now.
“My hope is as this door closes another opens for you all. God bless!”
That post came about an hour after Clark initially provided some “proof of life” on Instagram.
“Before the madness of yesterday, I woke up, got in my Tundra, drove to Planet Fitness, and got to work,” Clark said. “The rest of the day was eventful, but the journey continues. My peace is with God, and my humility comes from within. I’ll continue to build myself so the world can never strip me of what’s real.”
“Get moving today y’all!”
Clark had been with the network since 2015 after playing 13 seasons in the NFL. It appears he is leaning into a positive approach after his departure from ESPN.
It has been a difficult day for plenty of people at the network, especially on the NFL side. ESPN officially acquired NFL Network following a merger approval from government regulators in January.
ESPN layoffs continue
Tom Pelissero, Cam Newton, Charles Davis and Bart Scott are some of the more notable names that have been laid off so far.
ESPN is underdoing some major changes as it prepares for a major sports calendar ahead that includes broadcasting Super Bowl 61.
It appears that the NFL coverage will look vastly different by the time that day rolls around.
