Fresh off the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Hong Kong-born Tammy Wong is still buzzing – and not just from the adrenaline.
The 30-year-old weightlifter, who represented England in the women’s 48kg category, finished with a combined total of 160kg (352lbs), just 7kg shy of a podium finish, and five off her own personal best.
A three-time champion of British Weight Lifting’s British Championships, Wong played hockey as a child, continuing through university while going to the gym on the side. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she watched women doing CrossFit and weightlifting and thought to herself: “Oh my God – these women are chucking such heavy weights above their heads! I want to do that!”
“I got really strong really quickly,” Wong says. “Next thing you know, I was competing at a national level.”
She made her international debut at the 2025 European Weightlifting Championships.
